Create Magento maintenance page during site updates

Every Website Needs a Maintenance Page that can be displayed during maintenance activities. Even If a website is under construction we can prevent the visitors from Viewing the Site before it is actually ready. In this article we will create a maintenance Page for Magento.
This feature doesn’t come with Default magento installation, but it is available in magento connect as a free extension.–

Step 1: Install the Module via Magento connect or manually install through FTP.

Step 2: Next Step is to configure the offline settings. Log in to Admin Panel and Navigate to
System -> Configuration -> Offline Maintenance

Step 3: If you are comfortable with the Default offline Message of the Module Skip this step. However it would be Nice if we have a Html Page that looks similar to the site’s other pages with the Offline Message, so that the site visitors will not be confused. For this example iam creating a new directory called offline and past the default magento logo image in it and create my
maintenace page.

Step 4: For simplicity I used basic stylings that looks similar to magento default theme. However You can use
your creativity and design the html for this page. My Message with html looks as shown below

Finally My Maintenance Page looks like this .

Important Note: After configuring the Settings logout from AdminPanel and test the store frontend the offline message will appear. The Code checks the logged in session of admin user and if the admin is logged-in the module will not show the maintenance page, instead it shows the status as offline in store frontend but allows the admin user to access all frontend pages. This module was tested with version, but i assume it will work for older versions too.

Compatability :- Magento 1.5,1.4
